Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve answered some of the most common questions to help make your visit to AF Physiotherapy easy and stress-free.
If you need more information, feel free to contact us directly!
How do I know if I am suitable for physiotherapy or strength and conditioning?
Physiotherapy sessions are tailored for individuals that have a specific concern that will need to be assessed one-on-one (e.g., back pain, neck pain, headaches, foot pain) in a private setting, and may sometimes be treated with manual therapy, taping, and combined with exercise and patient education.
Do I need a GP referral to make an appointment?
A Doctor’s referral is welcome but not necessary
How do I claim for my treatment with private health insurance?
We use an electronic payment and claiming system called HICAP’s. This system allows you to automatically claim your rebate from your health fund immediately following your treatment. All you need is to present your health fund card so we can instantly process your claim. Once this is completed all you are required to do is pay the ‘gap amount’ (the difference between the treatment fee and the rebate you received from the health fund). This can be paid with cash, cheque, credit card or EFTPOS.
Do we take private health insurance?
Yes, we take all private health insurances. The coverage depends on your policy and insurance.
Do I need an x-ray or a scan before I come for physiotherapy treatment?
No, you don’t routinely require a scan prior to treatment. Your Physio will ask you a series of questions, and while your examination will advise you as to whether you need any further imaging to assist in your treatment.
What makes AF Physiotherapy suitable to take care of my pain experience or concern?
At AF Physiotherapy, we pride ourselves in providing high value care to every patient that enters our premises. AF Physiotherapy is connected to Anytime Fitness Hurlstone Park, which is a state-of-the-art commercial gym. This allows us to provide the most beneficial rehabilitation setting to get you back to what is meaningful.
Do I need to be a member of the gym to come in for physiotherapy or strength and conditioning?
Is physiotherapy covered by Medicare?
Physiotherapy can be covered by Medicare, but you need a referral from your GP under the Medicare Chronic Disease Management Scheme. You may be eligible for up to 5 Allied Health (i.e., Physiotherapy, Podiatry) sessions per year covered by Medicare. Your GP must decide whether your injury is appropriate to be treated under this scheme
At AF Physiotherapy you pay the full consultation fee on the day of treatment. You will then supply us with your Medicare card and a bank card (EFTPOS/savings/cheque). We are then able to process the re-imbursement of the Medicare rebate (typically $55.10) directly into your nominated bank account without the need for you to go to Medicare to claim. The Medicare rebate is credited into your account overnight.
Does AF Physiotherapy take workers compensation and Medicare?
Yes, AF Physiotherapy accepts Workers Compensation claims and Medicare plans. We are SIRA-approved for WorkCover cases and can assist you in navigating the paperwork so you can focus on recovery.
Does AF Physiotherapy take Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Plans (Chronic Disease Management – CDM)?
Absolutely. We accept Medicare EPC (now CDM) referrals from your GP. If eligible, Medicare will cover part of the cost for up to five physiotherapy sessions per year under this plan.
Yes! We offer free on-site parking at Anytime Fitness Hurlstone Park where our clinic is located. There is also ample parking within the car park opposite the entry for your convenience.
Cancellation Policy
We really value time – both yours, and ours. If you have booked an appointment and you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice or do not turn up (no-show), you are liable to pay the cost of that consult. A 24 hours’ notice policy provides the practice with an opportunity to offer your appointment to other clients from our waiting list.
